Ingrid Arthur, born in Georgia and trained in an old tradition of blues, soul, and gospel including Roberta Martin, Mavis Staples, Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, and Koko Taylor. She began recording and performing on stage under the shadow of Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s mother, with whom she recorded «Face to Face,» the Grammy-winning album. Earlier, she had participated with Bette Midler in another Grammy-winning album, «From A Distance.» Her professional career continued to grow with gospel divas Shirley Ceasar and Dorothy Norwood, but it was her European tours with the legendary Golden Gospel Singers that made Ingrid the great entertainer and singer she is today.
Starting in 2002, she spent long periods in Berlin and began participating in James Last’s world tours. These were the years where she stood out in the work «Little Shop of Horrors» and her collaboration with the spectacular «The Weather Girls.»
Since 2010, she has been performing «Nothing But the Blues» all over the world, a repertoire in which Ingrid Arthur and her band recreate the beauty and emotion of the African American musical tradition from the deep southern fields to its more urban northern derivatives. The most notable thing from an artistic point of view is to find an excellent group of musicians who have put their talents in the service of the great tradition of African American blues music.
Ingrid Arthur’s concerts are a unique experience because, in the tradition to which she belongs, nothing matters if it isn’t fun and doesn’t have swing.
